posted (October 21, 2010)
Twenty six year old Rosendo Nunez, charged with theft and harm, changed his plea from not guilty to guilty today in the Magistrate's Court as his accuser 44 year old Carlota Garcia picked up the Bible and was about to swear on oath to tell the truth.

Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser sentenced Nunez to 18 months for theft and 6 months for harm. She stipulated that the sentences are to run concurrently so Nunez will only serve 18 months.

The incident occurred around 7am on May 6, 2010 on Regent Street West. Garcia who resides on Regent Street West, reported to the police that she was walking on Regent Street West and had almost reached home when she was attacked from behind by Nunez who grabbed at her purse which contained ten dollars and some personal documents. She said she struggled with Nunez and fell to the ground and hurt her elbow. That was when Nunez grabbed her purse and rode away on a bicycle. Garcia's son, who saw what had happened pursued Nunez and caught up with him at the corner of Fabers Road and Central American Boulevard. By the time the police arrived Nunez had already been apprehended.
