Farah Is Fading
posted (November 1, 2010)
Since, July we've reported plentifully on Farah Jones Gillett, the mother of four with acute renal failure. And tonight her need is acute as the dialysis patient is need of blood to take her prescribed biweekly treatment.

Twenty-nine year old Gillett has kidney failure which requires three sessions of dialysis treatment weekly, but she is unable to undergo treatment because she needs to have above seven pints of blood - and her body does not presently have that volume. Today she was in the hospital and we spoke with her at her bedside:

Farah Jones
"My blood is only 5.4 and I can't get dialyze - if it's not above 7, so I come to do dialysis today because I need blood. But right now I can't find the blood type I need because I am A- and I don't have anybody to donate blood to me so right now I am getting an emergency blood, that will only stabilize me for a little while; for a couple days. But I need to get my blood to 7 in order to do dialysis. My chances are slim, I really need a lot of help; financially I need help and if I can get someone to donate blood for me with my blood type. My blood is A- so I can only get A or O- blood from anybody."

"So how much is it costing you right now to get the hemodialysis?

Farah Jones
"$450.00 for one of the session and that is for 4 hours. Right now government is paying for 2 but I need three sessions a week because my kidneys have already shut down and I can't afford to pay for that every week. All the money that I did fund raising with I have already paid for the session before so I left now stranded. I don't know where to look for help. I don't know what to do anymore."

Andrea Polanco
"So how long ago your kidneys fail?"

Farah Jones
"My kidneys fail from last year July."

Andrea Polanco
"So since then you've been doing the hemodialysis?"

Farah Jones
"Yes, I am 2 sessions since then but now the situation got worse. I need it 3 times a week, but I can't afford it."
