Another Manslaughter Verdict
posted (November 5, 2010)
Fifty six year old Wayne Gabb, a resident of Ontario Village, charged with the murder of 44 year old prison officer, Marcos Ishim, who was found not guilty of murder, but guilty of manslaughter, was sentenced today in the Belmopan Supreme court, to 13 years, by Justice Troadio Gonzalez. Ishim, a resident of Belmopan, was stabbed to his heart on January 12, 2009, while he was on the verandah of Capital Entertainment Complex in Belmopan. Two eyewitnesses testified that Ishim was talking loud and using obscene language to Gabb, when Gabb stabbed him. Despite Gabb's statement from the dock that he was not present when Ishim was stabbed, the jury of 5 women and 7 men, who deliberated for about three hours arrived at its manslaughter verdict which was unanimous. Before sentencing Gabb, Justice Gonzalez heard pleas for mitigation from Gabb's attorney, Linsbert Willis. Senior Crown Counsel, Cecil Ramirez, represented the prosecution.
