Who Did In “Duppy”?
posted (November 9, 2010)
Last night we had breaking news about the slaying of Keon Myvett Williams, known as Duppy.

He was killed at 6:15 pm as he stood at the corner of Castle And Lancaster Street.

For his family his bitter end is sharply contrasted with the scene four months prior when he ran out of the Supreme Court a free man. That's where Monica Bodden begins her story:..

FILE : Anthony Sylvestre Jr., Attorney
"There are really no winners in a case like this. Fortunately for the defendant the jury believes that he was telling the truth and so they acquitted him".

On the night of July 7th, 2010 this was what victory looked like for 27 year old Keon Williams Myvette - who had been locked up on remand for 3 years.

(February 28, 2007)
After 3 murder trials - the father of 2 - was found not of the murder of 32 year old Michael "Poppa" Gladden who was shot to death on Lovely Lane in 2007.

As Myvette bounded out of the courtroom a free man he was greeted by family and friends who embraced him but almost 5 months later that victory of being a free man came to an end - after he was fatally gunned down last night.

Voice of nearby witness
"From where I was I heard about 5 shots. I wasn't around the crime scene but I wasn't nowhere to far either, but I heard about 5 shots, I heard…bang...bang...bang...bang....bang."

Four of those 5 shots caught Myvette in the head - killing him almost instantly. The shooting happened corners Castle and Lancaster Streets…when we arrived on the scene CIB officers were scouring the area.

It was in this drain that Myvette fell after being shot 4 times. His lifeless body was taken away to the morgue in the pan of this police pick-up truck - it was later taken out and carted inside.

A sight almost unbelievable for his friends and family - as they gazed through the door of the morgue.

Around 6:15 yesterday evening 27 year old Keon Williams Myvette along with 37 year old Mark Rowley were standing Corners castle and Lancaster Streets when two men on separate bicycles rode up in their direction. According to witnesses, one of the men who was wearing a grey hoodie - took out a gun and fired 5 shots - hitting Williams in the head and Rowley in the back.

Voice of nearby witness
"I ran in my yard, when I ran in my yard it looks like the person who was shooting gone so I ran up the street now and when I look in the drain I see my friend "Duppy" in the drain with gunshots in his head and that is what happen. I didn't really see who shot the man."

Monica Bodden
"But "Duppy" got shot with someone else."

Voice of nearby witness
"Yes, "Duppy" and Rowley, I see Rowley in the yard in pain because he got shot in his back. The gunman wanted to finish the witness too. That is how people are thinking right now."

Myvette was shot 4 times to the head and his friend Mark Rowley was shot once to his back.

Voice of nearby witness
"About 5 of us lift up the man and when I lift him up he already look dark and I see like marrow coming out of his head because it is head shots that he got. I see he take one breath so we still try put him in the back of the police mobile to save his life if he can be save, but with 4 shots in your head.....? The policeman says that he got 4 shots in his head and there were 5 shots that were fired; 4 in his head and one in Rowley back. It looks like the gunman is a well target man because he didn't miss with any shot that fired."

Myvette's common-law-wife Oddessa Bailey, told us she first received the news last night from her sister-in-law. She said it was unbelievable since she had just gotten off the phone with Myvette.

Odessa Bailey - Common-law-wife
"I was at home waiting for Keon to come home because I wanted to have him take an x-ray for his back at the hospital. So I was waiting for him at home."

Monica Bodden
"I understand that you were one of the last persons Keon was talking to on the telephone before he got shot."

Odessa Bailey - Common-law-wife
"Yes, I had call him and I told him that I had already made the appointment for him and for him to come for us to go and he say babes I just drop home food for you and I will come and that was the last time I heard from him."

Myvette had been shot at just 3 weeks ago…

Odessa Bailey - Common-law-wife
"Last week when we were at home sleeping, two young man come and they knock on the door and they call him and I but none of us came out. I don't know what they would have done to us if we had opened that door. I know like 3 weeks ago when he comes home he says babes they just shot at me, and I told him to be careful and to stay at home. I told him to stay in."

He was viewed by many as a criminal but for his family he was just an ordinary person - with a good soul.

Odessa Bailey - Common-law-wife
"Keon was loving and kind and you could get anything from Keon, anybody gets anything from Keon, once he have he will give and that is Keon. He is the Keon I know. I still don't believe; I see him last night and I can't sleep, I still don't believe, I don't know why they do that to him."

Monica Bodden
"How hard it is for you guys? I see everybody is outside still trying to cope with the tragedy."

Odessa Bailey - Common-law-wife
"It's hard, Keon is the first man I live with, he was my everything and they just took him away."

And today for his family - all they want is justice.

Odessa Bailey - Common-law-wife
"I want justice."

Monica Bodden
"You believe you are going to get justice?"

Odessa Bailey - Common-law-wife
"I will get justice. I will get justice."

Two men are detained in connection with the murder. The name of the alleged gunman is widely known in the neighborhood because he was identified as he was riding when the wind blew the hood off his head…
