posted (November 11, 2010)
b>The defense closed its case today for 24 year old Darrel Grant who is on trial in the court of Justice Adolph Lucas for the murder of 35 year old Sandra Ruiz, a mother of two, who was raped and bludgeoned to death with a hammer around 10:30 P.M. on August 10th, 2008, at her home in Kings Park.

Grant took the witness stand and testified that he was a "snitch" for Sergeant Nicholas Palomo who he is used to making statements against others for.

Grant said Palomo took him into a room on August 11, 2008 and told him what to say in the statement he gave which was witnessed by a Justice of the Peace.

In the statement, Grant said he and a man by the name of Saragossa entered Ruiz's house and that Saragossa began to beat the woman with a hammer. Grant said Saragossa fell in a struggle with the woman and he grabbed the woman from behind, and held her while Saragossa struck her with a hammer all over her body.

Grant also said in the statement that he saw Saragossa hitting a little girl - Ruiz's daughter - on her back with the hammer.

On August 11, 2008, police found Grant with one of Ruiz's gold chain around his neck.

According to the evidence, Ruiz was in the living room with her 8 year old daughter while her 13 year old daughter was in the bathroom when her home was invaded.

Grant is represented by Attorney Dickie Bradley, while the prosecution is being represented by Senior Crown Counsel, Yohhanseh Cave.
