“Just Fix My Roof!”
posted (November 11, 2010)
Losses to the housing sector alone were 14 million dollars nationally - and again, that is just the initial estimate. But all those big figures don't mean much to 55 year old single parent Errolyn Felix - her roof was torn up by Hurricane Richard - and going on three weeks after the storm - she still hasn't gotten any meaningful relief.

She told Andrea Polanco more:….

Errolyn Felix, Port Loyola Resident
"We started with the 2 zinc on the verandah, you could notice how it is tied up and then we have the inside roof and the top of the house, well right now it is set because I have 2 of my son's friends who come and out board to the roof top and nail it down but it was way out. The house was flooded when it rains, I got a camper that a friend brought for me and so we put it over the roof, it's still leaks bit not much. All the chairs got wet up, in the room was wet up. This room wasn't really that wet just a little water came in but the rooms at the back and the bathroom was flooded of water, I could walk, I was getting sick in the water every day, every minute. I have been complaining a long time, I have all my widows that need fixing, my front and back door needs fixing also. I didn't think that the house top was going so....."

Andrea Polanco
"So the whole roof gone?"

Errolyn Felix, Port Loyola Resident
"Yeah the whole thing, you can look around and check what happen. That is what happens. You see how the zincs are tied up."

Andrea Polanco
"So did anybody came here to offer assistance, any assessment on your house?"

Errolyn Felix, Port Loyola Resident
"Well the first persons that came were from housing and planning, 2 young ladies came, and they were the first 2 persons. Then after that we didn't see them anymore. Well I decide to go to Mr. Boots office on Euphrates Avenue, that was the Saturday after the weather. I went there and spoke a young man name Harris, he ask about the complaint and I told him what had happen, hw write down everything then he say that he will take pictures. I told him that my daughter have the camera with pictures of all the damages. He told me that they will send someone to come and see it, my daughter came here, she does not live here, she was here until after 3pm, she call then about 2 times and they say yes they are coming, but nobody comes. It's bad, really bad and I don't know if I will get help or not. I hear Dean Barrow say on the radio this morning that everybody suppose to get help from the hurricane, but need help and I am not getting it, I don't see anybody and all I am hearing about Port, that the come to Port. I don't see the people come here but everything is Port, Port, Port."

In addition, to her damaged roof, Felix's mattresses, furniture and other personal belongings were also damaged. If anyone would like to lend a helping hand you can visit her home at number 83 Rio Bravo Crescent.
