First Belizean President Of The Court Of Appeal
posted (January 3, 2011)
The court of appeal has its first Belizean President. He is 60 year old Justice Manuel Sosa and he was sworn in today by Governor General Sir Colville Young in Belmopan.

Sosa takes over from Justice Elliot Mottley who abruptly announced his resignation as President in mid October - when his lifetime tenure was abridged to one year.

Justice Sosa will be president until the age of 62 which is when his contract as Justice of Appeal expires.

Sosa became a Justice of Appeal in 1999 - after he was unceremoniously ousted as Chief Justice in February of 1999. He has served on the court of Appeals for the last 11 years and is well regarded for his legal acumen and precise legal analysis.

Other Justices of Appeal are Denys Barrow, Dennis Morrison and Brian Alleyne.
