Bravo! Belize Butane!
posted (January 6, 2011)
Anyone who's seen the natural gas flaring off at any of the BNE wells in Spanish lookout has had to feel some tinge of sadness that all that natural gas is not being harnessed. Well it is now.

News came out today that Belize Natural Energy is now producing butane gas that's ready to fuel your stove. The company has entered a new phase of producing liquefied petroleum gas, more commonly known as butane.

But don't expect it on the market quite just yet. BNE is seeking Government's permission to market the product directly to consumers. It would be much cheaper than the imported butane but underselling the controlled price by a supplier which may not be able to fuel the entire country year round is always problematic.

So while you may not be benefitting from the low cost Belize butane just yet, residents of Georgeville did today. BNE hooked up with area Representative Rene Montero to provide 3,500 gallons of free butane and filled up over 200 butane tanks.

Daniel Gutierrez of BNE told the government press office more:…

Daniel Guittierez, Belize Natural Energy
"Belize Natural Energy has entered a new phase of production of liquefied petroleum gas. In Belize we know it as butane, it's actually liquefied petroleum gas; we are now producing this, it comes from Belize oil and we want to bring these benefits to the Belizean people and that's the main reason that we are doing this today."

Hon. Rene Montero, Minister of Agriculture
"So what we are doing today - most of the people come out with your butane tanks and your butane tanks will be filled, it's approximately, we figure that 200 tanks will be filled today."

Daniel Guittierez, Belize Natural Energy
"Remember that butane is a regulated product it is not for BNE to go and sell it directly to the people unless the government allows us to do that. Obviously we are asking the government to allow us to sell it directly to the people and the reason being that we would be able to bring a much better product at a much better price to the Belizean people."

The delivery process started around 11 this morning and lasted up until this afternoon The Belize Natural Energy donated three thousand five hundred gallons of gas.

The scope of today's activity included all villagers of Georgeville - which covers every resident from Central Farm to Cool Shade.
