Justice For A Sandhill Family
posted (January 17, 2011)
In June of 2008, Dorla Pitterson was brutally raped and murdered and then dumped in a pit latrine. She was killed by strangulation from a rope that was tied around her neck.

It was a particularly vicious crime and what made it even worse was that 45 year old Dorla Pitterson was mentally handicapped.

32 year old Sandhill resident Orlando Wade was charged for murder and the trial has been on since last week. Critical evidence came from a witness who told the court he passed the latrine and saw Wade on top of Pitterson beating her. HE says Wade later confessed the crime to him.

Wade gave a statement from the dock I which he denied committing the offence.

The trial concluded today and the jury deliberated for about three and a half hours before coming up with a guilty verdict. The verdict provided some relief to her family and her sister Geraldine Flowers told us that the family is relieved…

Geraldine Flowers, Sister
"I think most of all this put my mom mind at ease for a while."

Jules Vasquez
"Anyone who knows the details knows that it is one of the ugliest murders we've seen. Is there any satisfaction for you knowing that well the person is guilty, most likely he will not hang, that's not how the law works anymore. Is there still a satisfaction in the verdict?"

Geraldine Flowers, Sister
"Well we are satisfied for now that they find him guilty."

Jules Vasquez
"Is there any hope that you all have for the sentencing, when that happens?"

Geraldine Flowers, Sister
"Well I can't speak for the rest but on my behalf I hope he gets life because he can't bring back my sister to us."

Sentencing has been set for Friday January 21st. to give Wade's attorney Kevin Arnold time to prepare a mitigation plea. Senior Crown Counsel Yohhanseh cave prosecuted.
