Poet On the Rise
posted (January 18, 2011)
Last night we showed The Grandmaster Leroy Young telling you about his new DVD. And while the Grandmaster is the grand-daddy of the streetwise spoken word in Belize - Gildon Rowland Sr is an up and coming talent.

Unlike the Grandmaster, he hasn't got any published books, any cd's or any dvd's. And so while the Grandmaster is trying to get over, Rowland is just trying to get on.

The 34 year old ex-cop told us why he needs your help and why he's worthy of it.

Gildon Rowland Sr., poet
"Everyday life, everything that happens in our community and in the world at large because this is some of the things that a lot of people are not noticing that we need to start to be more focus about the things and people around us so all of the poem that I put aside are just messages of enlighten to the little brothers and sisters out there."

"I have two poems that I had to write like "Mammy Lee Bwoy" that was one that come to me through prayers, and "Conscience" is one that I just recently write on the 22 November last year and one month after that the 23 December my brother got kill. 4 o'clock in the morning something just push me to get out of my bed and start write."

"I prefer to put these poems on CD too because I go by the name Mr. Belizean and its strictly creole I speak mostly and as a result of that cognizant of the fact that people barely read English, let alone how will they read creole and some of us don't really know how to read creole so I really want them to get the message and I am hoping that by Cd, the same way how the listen to music, the poems get embedded in their brain, it's the same way the words could get there and be of the same effect."

If you want to help Rowland's phone number is 626-6230…
