Accused Of Aggravated Assault

Twenty seven year old Belize City businessman Bert Vasquez, who is accused of holding a 24 year old woman at knife point and sexually assaulting her, was charged with 2 counts of aggravated assault and 1 count of unlawful imprisonment when he appeared today in Magistrate's Court. Vasquez pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecution objected to bail on the ground that Vasquez was convicted for a similar offence and was bound over to keep the peace.

Magistrate Kayla Teck upheld the objection and remanded Vasquez into custody until March 16. The incident occurred on January 25.

The woman reported to the police that Vasquez offered her a ride, but instead of taking her home she allges that Vasquez drove her on the Northern Highway near to Ladyville, put a knife to her throat, and fondled her.
