posted (March 15, 2011)
The revolving coca cola clock near mule park at the foot of the swing bridge on Albert street has been standing there since 1979 - but tonight it is gone.

That's because it was removed last night - as it's being taken down for refurbishing.

In fact the entire mule park area is being remodeled. We found out more from the omnipresent councilor Phillip Willoughby today.

Phillip Willoughby, Belize City Council
"Well as a part of the City rejuvenation project within the down town area, we have engage with Bowen and Bowen to renovate the mule park and to bring a new type of design and look to it. So the clock has been temporarily been remove. It will be replaced back and there will be some additional adjustment made to the actual mule park physical structure itself."

Jules Vasquez
"I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth but will it be drape in all things Coca Cola?"

Phillip Willoughby, Belize City Council
"No, only the clock will be representation of the Bowen Group of Companies and I believe the colors will reflect whatever to create a balance - and ambiance for tourist and those who will be in the area."

Jules Vasquez
"Is the City funding any of this?"

Phillip Willoughby, Belize City Council
"We are partner-shipping with the Bowen & Bowen Group of Companies."

Jules Vasquez
"Is the City paying any this?"

Phillip Willoughby, Belize City Council
"We are working in collaboration with them."

Jules Vasquez
"Are you putting sweat equity or?"

Phillip Willoughby, Belize City Council
"Yes we are partner-shipping with the business community."

Jules Vasquez
"If you say the City Council has to pay then I know it won't happen because I know you all can't pay."

Phillip Willoughby, Belize City Council
"That's a state of Jules Vasquez mind or to your own mind, but I am saying we are partner-shipping with Bowen and Bowen to make this project actually materialize like many other project that we have partner with the business community on."

Jules Vasquez
"Is there is budget?"

Phillip Willoughby, Belize City Council
"Yes, everything you have to work with a budget and monies have to be accounted for."

Jules Vasquez
"How much is the budget? How much is going to be spend on this renovating down town?"

Phillip Willoughby, Belize City Council
"On the mule park? To this end I haven't seen the breakdown by line item."

The lighting in the area will also be improved with the installation of news lamp-posts.
