Academic Publishes Book
posted (March 23, 2011)
Another Belizean Academic has entered the world of literary publication, by launching today her first book of Poetry, Prose and Pictures.

Jane Menzies Bennett, the Head of the University of the West Indies Open Campus, Belize and an Adult Educator has been writing poetry since her high school days at St. Catherine Academy.

And now she's culled the collective wisdom of her years and launched her book today at the Bliss Center. Bennett took a moment to share one of her favorite passages from the book titled Journeys Part I.

Jane Menzies Bennette
"And now this is one of my favorite poems called 'I'. And especially for the young people, gathered here today, I want to tell you it's very okay to talk about yourself, to talk about who you are, who you feel, and the things that you've experienced. It's very okay. Here am I. I was given two parents, oh so dear, grew up with their love and their care. Was taught to honor, love and respect, justice and equality I cannot reject. From grade school onwards, the RC way, yes it's more evident from day to day. No matter what the odds may say, the good old system is here to stay. Did not even complete my education, forgot all my goals and my foundation. Put passion and love in the first, just had to end that terrible thirst. Got married at the age of 17, did not have the time to really glean the facts of life from the other side. Thought everything was one big ride..."

Today's book launching was attended by the Minister of Education, Honorable Patrick Faber who says his ministry is studying the possibility of including the material in its curriculum.
