Teenager Swift Killed While Walking Dog
posted (March 24, 2011)
Last night our headline was the evening murder of Phillip Swift, a teenager who was killed a few hundred feet from his home in Lindo's Alley, which is off Vernon street in Belize City.

Today, police had no new information - and his family was reluctant to speak - but one aunt who spent lots of quality time with her son shared her grief and incomprehension with us today:….

Voice Of: Phillip Swift's Aunt
"He was home most of the day resting and in the evening they say that he took his dog and went out for a walk."

Jules Vasquez Reporting
Phillip Swift walked his dog named Spice everyday - he painted his eye to make the dog more vicious.

But yesterday at 5:10 pm, not even his vicious dog was enough to protect from the killer who was lying in wait for him.

He shot Swift multiple times, and the fatal shot was to the head, he died on the spot; the robust 19 year old crumpled in a heap in the middle of Lindo's Alley - just 200 feet from his home - the dog chain still in his hand:

Voice Of: Phillip Swift's Aunt
"Before he went he was with his sister Tifara and she said that she heard a gunshot and she heard the gunshot she ran out and she found her brother on the ground."

A passerby with a camera, captured that terrible moment:

It is an end that has left the family grief stricken and traumatized

Voice Of: Phillip Swift's Aunt
"When I see it I was so devastated to see him on the ground just like that."

His aunt says she remembers well their last conversation two to three weeks ago:

Voice Of: Phillip Swift's Aunt
"He came out when he heard my voice and told him if he had stop give his mother trouble. So he says yes. I told him because if you don't stop give trouble, you are going to get in a lot of different of things. So but he is ok and the last thing before I left he said 'auntie, I want to sell you something' he sold me a shirt for five dollars. That was the last thing he did. He was so kind, that's all I got to say about my nephew and I love him so much and I need justice."

Police say they are looking for two persons.
