Churchgoing Young Man Killed, Why?
posted (May 16, 2011)
Tonight there is another unexplained killing - and a churchgoing 21 year old is the victim. 21 year old Dwight Warrior was inexplicably shot to the head on Friday night in the Port Loyola Area.

He survived - but only for a little while - and 24 hours later, he was pronounced dead at the KHMH. His senseless killing has left his family in uncomprehending grief. Monica Bodden has the story:…

Monica Bodden Reporting
21 year old Dwight Warrior - was shot inside his church van at the corner of Freedom Street and Central American Boulevard on Friday night around 10:25.

The young man had just left home to drop off his girlfriend - When 2 of his church brothers saw him and stopped to give him a ride. While the three young men were approaching the boulevard, a man started firing several shots from behind the van.

One of those shots caught Warrior to the back of his head.

Anna Warrior, Mother of decease
"My son was at home the entire day on Friday and then he went to drop off his aunt in the evening, then in the night he went to drop off his girlfriend at home. Coming back on the way his church bus saw him walking and they stop to give him a lift, they saw three gunman rode pass the van first and then they circled back and that was when they started to fire around the van. By the time they try to dodge the bullets; one of them had already hit him (Dwight) in his head."

The 21 year old young man fought for his life for almost 24 hours. At 11:05 on Saturday night, he succumbed to his injuries.

John Young, Uncle of Decease
"He was hit in his head and the bullet came behind his eye and that's what kills him. The doctor said that the bullet damage his brain. Friday night I went to look for him but he was in a bad state, he couldn't talk, he was in a coma. From the pressure of the machine I knew that he was in a very bad condition. He will never make it."

The untimely death of this Christian youth has left everyone in disbelief. The young man had just recently entered the gospel music industry and had lately recorded a song alongside Reality Youth- entitled Fed Up - which spoke about gun violence and gang warfare on the streets.

Andrew Peterson, Gospel Artist
"His verse in the song actually was talking about keeping a relationship with God because tomorrow is promise to no one. It's like he is saying that you don't know if you will live to see the next day, so in his he is talking about keeping a close relationship with God. And if you know you are a child of God that is straying away from God then this is the time for you to come back. The other part of the verse, he also talks about his mom. I don't know if he refer to just his mom or to many moms telling them to just keep their head up in this time because we know that there is a lot of moms still moaning over their son that they lost and in the song he is describing to the mothers to just keep you head up and just stay focus on God."

Word on the street is that the church van warrior was in - may have been mistaken for someone else's.

Anna Warrior, Mother of decease
"The way hoe I feel right now - in Belize the way that somebody kills somebody - that is the first thing they say; they had mistaken the person for somebody else. Even if they take you for somebody else that don't give them any right to shoot any parents' child like that because everybody comes from parents and parents feel the same pain like everybody so that is still not fair the way how these young men are getting shoot up like that. I had just buried my mom last year and then my own son now I have to bury. It really hurts. From Friday I am crying, so I can't do anymore crying right now."

This mother says she needs Justice.

Anna Warrior, Mother of decease
"To tell you the truth the way how I feel angry, I just want to tell that person that the way how I feel it's like he just take a bullet and rip it through me because he was my first son, to have your firs and oldest son just taken away from you like that without even talking to him. That really hurt me and that would hurt anybody so I don't know how they can live with themselves with that. It's very sad but I just have to be strong."

No one has been arrested for Warrior's murder….
