You probably remember him as the guy who got Belizean Oscar Dennis Gonguez out of Guatemalan jail for trafficking drugs in that country. Well now, Budna is the one who needs someone to get him out of Belize jail for - guess what: trafficking drugs in Belize!
It's a reversal of fortunes, all right, but we couldn't make this stuff up. 30 year old freelance journalist Joseph Budna was busted by police with almost 4 pounds of suspected marijuana.
According to police they received information around 5:20 yesterday evening - of a Maroon Mitsubishi car with Guatemalan License Plate looking suspicious and so they decided to intercept the car on the Benque Viejo Road in San Ignacio Town.
At the time the vehicle was driven by Budna who was accompanied by a 15 year old minor - a student of Roaring Creek Village. A search of the car resulted in the discovery of 3 parcels of suspected cannabis which was weighed by police and amounted to a total of 1.8 kilos - which is 3 - point - 93 pounds.
Budna told police he resides in the DFC area in San Pedro Town. Both Budna and the minor were arrested and charged for the offence of Drug Trafficking.
They haven't been arraigned yet as there was no magistrate in Cayo today - so they remain in police detention.
You may recall that Budna was almost killed in that same car back in January when he picked up two men who tried to rob him.
