There's a new Miss Y. She is 80-year-old Muriel Cummings, the oldest of the seven contestants. The spritely octogenarian excelled in a Brok Dong performance and also won as Ms. Vivacious. Eleno Stanford, was the First Runner-Up.
Festival Of Arts Opens With A Bang
The 2011 Festival of Arts opened today with an elaborate, outdoor, all day event. It was stacked with performances, parades with marching bands form all pover the country - and also a powerful welcome from Shawn Saldano - here's what he said.

"What is Festival of Arts? As I look out at this audience fill with young faces I would say that it is a showcase of natural raw talents of Belizeans. It provides opportunities for our voices to be heard from pre-schools, primary school and even youths at secondary level."

"My message to you on this occasion of the launch of the Festival of Arts is that we should try to be a creative as possible, we should not be afraid of putting forward those things which are uniquely Belize. Let us not be copying from other places. Many of our performances we see as well have a tremendous influence from outside and while that may be good to a certain extent we also have to make sure that what we are portraying particularly in our art and in our cultural displays are the things that are uniquely Belize so that they do not go away, you hear me boys and girls."
