Finding The Best Young Film-Makers

We've already told you about the Belize Audio Visual Association's effort to recruit new talent with its video competition for high school students.

The competition opened today with a launch at the Bliss Center where the ground rules were laid down. From here it's a mad two week rush to see who will claim the thousand dollar prize. But it's not about money; it's about shaping the images you see on local tv. We found out more from Javier Molina, the President of BAVIA:…

"Basically the rules are; be creative, don't cheat. We want to see what you can do and let's see how creative you can be."

"We have a mind open, we have to sit down and strategize what we will do basically we want to do a music video of basically high school students."

"Well pretty much we have everything right here at our reach. We have the ocean there and we have the Maya ruin, we have everywhere near to our reach and we will take advantage of it. We will find a way to make it really creative - different from anything that - we have a MTV, HTV and everything."

"I do have some high expectations. I mean I've seen some stuff on YouTube from people who are here participating have done. Actually I am expecting very good stuff from these kids."

"I have some experience in the editing aspect of it because we have done past videos for school."

"Really the pot of gold for BAVIA is to find out where the talent was, find out who the people are that we can rope in and start molding and grooming to raise the level of productions overall in Belize."
