Free Zone Fire Safety
posted (July 1, 2011)
The Corozal Free Zone may be an economic engine and a major job provider in the north - but managing the garbage in the Zone has been a task.

That's why Phillip Ying the executive chairman of the Belize Taiwan chamber of commerce - donated two dump trucks and a fire engine yesterday.

Anil Hotchandani, Vice Chairman - CFZ
"I just wanted to take a few moments to thank the Embassy of Taiwan especially the ambassador for coming through with this great donation of the two garbage compactors which in my view is going to go a long way in helping the revenues for the Corozal Free zone because the administration faces a very difficult job beside fixing the finances and bringing the Free Zone finances to a very healthy state where they are today. This is going to help them immensely because I think they will be saving a lot of revenues ambassador and I think this will help us improve the infrastructure of the free zone so the free zone can compete with our customer base. I would also want to say with regards to the fire truck that we receive as a donation - the free zone has already started to see a benefit with reduction rates in insurance. It's a safer place to conduct business and the insurance company has lowered the rates."

Ambassador Wu
"Corozal Free Zone is public manage zone, over the years during its existence most sectors such as security and garbage removal were privatize costing the administration high finance, In the year 2008 under the new administration of the government of Belize new resolution was pass by the Corozal Free Zone board of directors to take full control of the security and the garbage collection of the zone. This decision has enabled the administration to give a better quality of service to the investors and visitors. It has also brought financial cost down which in turn is now being invested in other areas such as health, education, maintaining of the streets, building of sidewalks and other upkeep of the new fire department."

Ambassador Wu gave his government's commitment to provide further assistance in the future to the Corozal Free Zone.
