NSC Will Review FFB Statutes
posted (July 8, 2011)
Dr. Bertie Chimilio and The Football Federation of Belize had the National Sports Council back in the Supreme Court today. The FFB was applying for an injunction against the Minister of Sports, The Commissioner of Police and the National Sports Council. The FFB wants the court to restrain them, from restraining the police, from providing security for their world cup qualifier against Montserrat. Government has previously said it will not provide security for any visiting team in an FFB game and will not provide security for the venue.

But the injunction hearing was not held - again both sides had to go into chambers before Justice Minette Hafiz. The hearing was put off until Thursday because it was revealed in Chambers that the National Sports Council would be meeting tomorrow to consider the Statutes submitted by the FFB eleven days ago.

The FFB is hoping that with the Sports Council's long awaited review of the 2010 statutes, the FFB can be re-registered as a sporting organization in Belize and then the match possibly could be played on home soil.

But, not so fast. The Sports Council is meeting to review the constitution and information suggests that they are in no rush to make a final decision tomorrow. It is not unforeseeable that the Sports Council may have issues with the provisions of the constitution itself.

It is of significant note that tomorrow; the Sports Council will also be considering an application from a new body, the National Football Association of Belize - which is asking to be recognized as a sporting body for football.

It's no secret that the movers behind the NFAB hope to supplant the FFB as the accredited body for football in Belize.

So, the possibilities continue to multiply, but, one way or the other, the FFB is preparing its national team to play its home game in Honduras next week Sunday. In a release yesterday, Government called on its sister nation, Honduras, to respect its sovereignty.
