Political Operator Says She Didn't Steal A Cell Phone
posted (July 8, 2011)
A minor charge of cell phone theft went to court today but observers point to the political angle of the case.

Twenty one year old Crystal Ferguson, a resident of Hattieville who allegedly stole jewelry and a cell phone, was charged with theft when she appeared today in the Magistrate's Court.

Ferguson pleaded not guilty. Magistrate Dorothy Flowers offered her a bail of two thousand dollars and adjourned her case until August 22.

On Monday, July 1, Wendy Castillo, the wife of defeated candidate for PUP Standard Bearer in Belize Rural Central, Linsford Castillo, reported to the police that she hired Ferguson to do housekeeping work at her house and she fired Ferguson when she discovered that her jewelry and cell phone were missing.

For her part, Ferguson says she was doing political work during the recent convention campaign and she understood the phone to be part of her compensation package. She says if it wasn't, they would have disconnected the service.
