Monica Bodden found out more about the accident:…

"I was going to pick up my girlfriend and I was driving along and there was a few people standing by the side of the road but there was no lights - I don't recall if there was any cars but all of a sudden in front of me was what I pick up with the headlights a body in the middle of the road, I swerve from the body and swerve into the motorcycle that was already crash on the side of the road."

It was 21 year old Maurice Usher that was laying on the road gasping for air.

This badly wrecked motorcycle on the side of the highway - was what he was travelling on along with his cousin 20 year old Nigel Williams. -both heading to Belize City - when they collided into a bicycle that was ridden by 47 year old Efrian Martinez.

The accident happened around 6:30 on Friday evening near mile 3 and a half on the Western highway - between the garbage dumpsite and the police checkpoint. Today the 21 year old is fighting for life at the KHMH.

"A little before 7 my brother call and told me that it was my son that crash on the motorcycle but never known that it was a hot and run."

Monica Bodden
"When you got here and spoke to doctors, what's his condition?"

Delia Lewis
"Very critical, so that's all I can say that he was very critical. First they put him on life support and he is still on that."

21 year old Maurice Usher has since been on life support. With a fractured skull and internal bleeding, doctors told the young man's family that his chances of surviving are as slim as 15%.

Delia Lewis
"Maurice always tell me that he is a strong person so I believe that he will come out - he will because he is a string person."

But what exactly happened on Friday night?

Well according to 20 year old Nigel Williams - from the little he remembered -he was on the motorcycle along with his cousin - when they saw 47 year old Efrian Martinez riding his bicycle towards Belize City on the same side of the road. He said they tried to avoid hitting the bicycle by swerving unto the highway but was unsuccessful. He couldn't recall if a vehicle was involved. Williams received abrasions to his face and to the left side of his body which includes his arm and leg.

"It was a vehicle who knocks them and then they knock into the man on the bicycle. I can't give really any details what really happen. That is what they told me."

47 year old Efrian Martinez was the man on the bicycle - Today he showed us his mangled bike - and told us the little he remembered.

According to him, he had just left work and was riding his bicycle beside a friend who was walking towards Belize City - when he felt a bang.

(translator) "He said that when he was riding he didn't see anything from the back. He just felt the big hit and after that he went blank."

Monica Bodden
"What side of the road was the riding on? Was he riding on the same side with the motorcycle?"

Efrian Martinez
(translator) "He says that he was on the right but he didn't see from where the motorcycle was coming from. He just felt the hit."

Monica Bodden
"Was he hit by the motorcycle or by a vehicle?"

Efrian Martinez
(translator) "He says by the motorcycle."

Monica Bodden
"Now at what point did the vehicle pass? Right after the hit?"

Efrian Martinez
(translator) "He says he didn't see because the pains knock him out. He didn't see anything after that."

Monica Bodden
"So when he woke up he was already in the hospital?"

Efrian Martinez
(translator) "He said he was already in the ambulance heading to the hospital. He has pain in his right shoulder and pain in his left leg. He has wounds and bruises on his left leg. He has pain in his left shoulder to his right leg."

Monica Bodden
"So at no point did a vehicle hit any one of them?"

Efrian Martinez
(translator) "He says he didn't see anything because he got hit from a motorcycle."

Delia Lewis is the mother of 8 year old Marquis Mahler - who was shot on July 9th of last year -by a gunman while standing in his yard on Faber's Road Extension. The following day July 10 - little 8 year old Marquis died- on his mother's birthday. Exactly one year later and Lewis is once again holding on to hope - this time for her oldest child.

"He went to the farm because the 10th of July made one year since my son Marquis was killed. He went to the farm to visit him and when he came down - coming back home that was when the accident happens. My son is fighting for his life right now and I am praying that he come out and be successful."
