Man Knocked Down, Left Critical; His Family Wants Answers
posted (July 15, 2011)
A man is critical after he was knocked down on the Placencia Peninsula. 24 year old Giovanni Augustine was found lying on the side of a road in Seine Bight Village - around 3 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon. The young man was knocked down and left to die - oddly with an umbrella covering him.

Luckily, he was discovered in time by a passer-by and was rushed to Belize City where he was admitted at the KHMH and put on life support.

Today Augustine was taken off the machine but his condition remains critical.

His family told 7News that they feel the case is not being handled with the required urgency by law enforcement and they want justice:

Voice of: Sister
"Right now, I guess, he is stable, but we're still not sure because they still have him under obervation for 24. And until the, we will know what's the condition."

Monica Bodden
"Now I understand that he was on life support, but was taken off this morning, right?"

Sister
"Yes Ma'am."

Monica Bodden
"Tell us; what you understand happened on Tuesday?"

Sister
"Well, they said that it was a hit and run, and all I want is that if they have anybody out there who knows what happened, if they could please come forward with any information that they have, because I almost lost my brother. And I don't think it's fair for it to go just like that. And moreover, it happened before, and nothing got done, to other people in the village. And I haven't seen anything get done about it."

Monica Bodden
"He was found around what time?"

Sister
"About 3 in the evening on Tuesday."

Monica Bodden
"And he was found in what state? Was he on the side of the road?"

Sister
"No, he was found through a dump area. And he was all muddy, they said that they had an umbrella in front of him. For what reason, I don't know, but I think it was to block him so no one could see. On my point of view, I am angry - I can't explain - beyond imagination. And if I really had to reach to that, maybe it might create a problem. All I really want is just to get justice."

No one has been charged - but someone has been taken in for questioning.

If you would like to assist the Augustine family with their medical expenses you can do so at their Belize Bank account number 2-9-5-0-6-7 or you can contact the family at telephone number 6-6-7-2-6-1-5.
