Rhett Refused By Hon. Elrington
posted (September 20, 2011)
There was more bad news for Rhett Fuller today as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wilfred Elrington handed down a decision on his fate at his Belize City office.

Fuller was not allowed to come down from the Kolbe Central prison for the judgment, but his wife Anne-Marie, along with his friend John Mencias and stand-in attorney Godfrey Smith were present.

Hearings were conducted two weeks ago in which Fuller's legal team made the case that considering all the circumstances it would be unjust to still extradite him, Minister Elrington today announced that he is refusing the application.

That means that Rhett Fuller is set for extradition. But - it won't happen tomorrow - or for the next two weeks: he has 15 days to apply for judicial review of the Minister's decision.

That is because his legal team got an anticipatory injunction before the minister's decision was made - which restrains Government from proceeding with the extradition until judicial review is sought.

We'll let you know how that goes...
