Former Director of Immigration Edwin Gillett passed away nine days ago in Los Angeles at the age of 62. His family was preparing for his funeral on Sunday here in Belize, but that was jeopardized by a major mix up.
It seems, the airline which was bringing the body to Belize made a huge error and attached Gillett's documents to the wrong casket.
And so, the body that was flown into Belize this morning was the wrong one!
When they opened the casket they found a Caucasian female, not Edwin Gillett.
Needless to say it has caused his family great distress added to their grief. As we understand it, the airline is trying to resolve it - and recover Gillett's body so that they can bring it here in time for the
funeral.
They also have to return the woman's body - which was to be sent for a funeral on another continent.
At newstime, we could not confirm if the funeral will proceed...
