Could Vernon's Containers Be Valued At 10 Billion
posted (April 11, 2012)
We haven't had an update on Vernon Cuthklevin's containers in two weeks: well tonight, they are still impounded at the Customs Department and from what we're hearing they aren't about to go anywhere.

That's because unofficial reports that we've say that the tests from a foreign lab came back and they show that the six containers were loaded with a chemical called methylamine hydrochloride. That is classed as a precursor chemical for the manufacture of meta-amphetamines - which, as we've told you, is an illegal, highly addictive drug in the United States known as "Crystal Meth."

And because precursor chemicals are usually targeted for drug markets in the USA, the local investigation is being actively being followed by DEA agents in Belize.

Reliable reports to us say that the estimate is that the close to three thousand sacks of methylamine hydrochloride could produce about 400 metric tonnes of meta-amphatamines.

That's a whole lot - and guess how much that would be worth? Well, hold unto your chair, but the presumptive value would be - you ready? - TEN BILLION DOLLARS. You heard right, that's billion with a "b."

Again that is the presumptive value which US authorities are reportedly using - but speaking today with Vernon Cuthklevin's Attorney Lionel Welch he was unfazed.

He told us he and his client don't have any proof of any precursor - that was only told to them by word of mouth. And he adds that the chemical could be a precursor for a legitimate product -and not only used to make Crystal Meth.

As for the other issue, that Cuthkelvin made a false customs declaration, claiming the contents were fertilizer, Welch said that would not stand because if Cuthklevin ordered one chemical and another came, it is not his fault; customs would have to show that he knew that he made a false declaration.

So, that's where it stands tonight. We understand Customs is readying charges for making a false declaration - but that is far as it can go - the chemical is not banned in Belize and importing it is not illegal.

We'll keep following the case...
