Mother Of Three Knocked Down, But Was She Run Over?
posted (September 24, 2012)
Tonight a Ladyville family is grieving the loss of a mother of three after she was knocked down on Friday morning.

But it's not just that she was knocked down - they believe she was deliberately run over - a murder by motor vehicle.

They spoke to Monica Bodden today about what has them feeling that way:..

Monica Bodden reporting
The body of 36 year old Sherlet Longsworth was seen lying here on the side of Marage road around 3:00 on Friday morning.

It was spotted by a man who was driving his vehicle on the road -who then called the Ladyville police.

This pile of sand indicates the exact spot where she was found lying face down in a pool of blood, bleeding from the mouth and head.

Jennifer Meighan - Daughter of Decease
"When I first arrive at the scene before I reach the lane where she was on the ground, the first thing I saw was her red belt, so I scream and I yelled she is my mother. I walk a little more towards the body and saw that it was my mother because I know my mother from her clothes and her red belt."

Monica Bodden
"What condition was she in?"

Jennifer Meighan - Daughter of Decease
"She was on her face in a pool of blood and her tongue was out a little. Her left hand was bend like it was broken and then the other hand was out on the street. The two sandals that she wore, one was by her hand and the other was at her foot."

Fitzroy Yearwood - Police Press Officer
"She was found on the right side of the road. Her head was in the direction as she was walking in from the highway on Marage Road going towards Perez Road. The tire track on her body which suggests that she was hot from behind because you can see tire marks on the back and on the left side of the face."

"I can recall that her left arm was broken and her right eye was a bit out from the socket."

"I wouldn't say that she was running. The evidence on the scene would suggest that she wasn't wearing her sandals at the time."

Marion Ali, Reporter "How is police ruling this, as a traffic accident, a hit and run or a murder?"

Fitzroy Yearwood - Police Press Officer
"It's a hit and run."

On Friday morning - just an hour before Longsworth was found dead, she was last seen by her daughter standing outside the Happy Hour Nightclub in Ladyville.

And even though police has ruled out Sherlet Longsworth's death as a Hit and Run - her family believes that their loved one was murdered that morning.

Tiffany Moya - Niece of Decease
"We consider it as a murder because if it was a hit and run - having your shoes on your feet especially those sandals that has to be buckle it would have been on her foot and if you would have gotten hit it would have bounce and maybe they would probably be torn or something, but she had shoes in her hand trying to run. Her foot was all dusty, and so we know that it wasn't a hit and run."

"She has burst head also and so we don't know what exactly to say."

Jennifer Meighan - Daughter of Decease
"It's plain to be seen just from the way she was on the ground. The way her sandals was led us to believe that it was a murder and not an accident. If it was a hit and run you would have seen a skid mark from the tires, but none of that was on the ground."

And while her family is still trying to piece together the puzzle of who would want to kill Longsworth, a recent incident is still fresh in their mind - where only 2 weeks ago Longsworth reported to police of an attempted rape by a young man from around the neighborhood.

Tiffany Moya - Niece of Decease
"She told us that this young man tried to grab her and so she decided to report it to the police. The police detained this person and then let him go. We don't know if this accident here is because of that. We are just trying to find out more and see what we can do about this."

Marion Ali, reporter
"Somebody from the same general area had attempted to rape her. Do you link that to what has happen now?"

Fitzroy Yearwood - Police Press Officer
"Marion, we immediately detain that person on Friday. The person doesn't own a vehicle and that person was charge for a bicycle, not for attempted rape."

And today Longsworth's family is pleading to anyone with information on her death to come forward and speak to the police.

Tiffany Moya - Niece of Decease
"We would want anybody who saw or heard anything or know of anything to please come forth and tell the police because we need justice. We can't make this go like that. They left my aunt like a piece of nothing on the street. We don't live like that, my aunt is a nice person and she doesn't bother anyone. Yes she drinks but she does not hurt anyone, I don't know why they would kill her like that because we know this is not a hit and run."

Police have made no arrests and note that there were no parts of the vehicle - such as a broken light that might give an indication as to what kind of vehicle was involved.
