Belize Did Well In 3 On 3
posted (October 1, 2012)
On Friday night we gave you the exciting news about Belize's performance in the National Under - 18 World Championships for 3 on 3 basketball in Seville Spain.

In the first day of competition, the team of Brian White, Brandon Flowers, Tree-vanne Moses, Akeem Watters turned heads by beating China and Poland.

The team from the smallest country did big things and FIBA's website prominently featured an interview with the start of the team Brian White. Here's what he said:

Reporter
"We are here with Brain from Belize. Can you tell us what your first day was like here at the tournament?"

Brain White
"My first day was very great because it was very easy for me because I drive the ball easy, score easy and help my team mates to win."

Reporter
"You won 2 games, you lost 2 games. Is that a good score for you today?"

Brain White
"Yes that's very great because it's the first time a Central American team is in this tournament, so it's very great to know that we came from Belize a small country that beats China and Poland; you know that's very big for us. We are playing for years with one another, so we know everyone on our team, so it's very easy."

Reporter
"What are you guys trying to get out of this weekend, fun but also some great experience?"

Brain White
"It's an experience for us; it's a lifelong achievement because I always wanted to come to Spain. From a young boy that was one of my goals - to come to Spain to play basketball and I am here now, the first time over this side in Europe."

"Actually I wanted to go to the game to watch Real Madrid play against Deportivo; that's if we don't make it to the finals. I'm looking at a fun trip in Spain."

On Saturday in the second day of pool play - Belize LOST TO FRANCE but beat Slovakia and the Netherlands. That put our team into a 4 and 3 tie for third with New Zealand which had the tiebreaker advantage and thus advanced to the Quarterfinals.

So, while Belize did turn heads it did not advance - but it certainly pulled of a major upset in beating China, the most populous nation on earth.

One consolation, Tree-vanne Moses won the gold medal in the 3 point Shootout contest.
