Murder Victim's Family Speaks
posted (December 19, 2012)
Gushany Fred Wagner was killed early on Sunday morning - a direct consequence of the gang brawl that erupted at the BTL Parkfest on Saturday night.

He was killed on his block in front of the Salvation Army Primary School on Cemetery Road - right at the mouth of the alley where he hung out.

No one spoke up for him at the time - because his death was gang related and his family is from Orange Walk. But today, they came to town for the post mortem and that's where Monica Bodden spoke to his sister:

Jessica Wagner - Sister of Deceased
"We received the news at about 1:30 on Sunday morning, and it was really shocking."

Monica Bodden
"What were you told?"

Jessica Wagner
"We were told that someone rode up on a bicycle and shot him 5 times in the back, and once in the head."

Monica Bodden
"He was shot at around a well-known gang territory, Taylor's Alley. Could you say if your brother was a gang member, or was he just staying there?"

Jessica Wagner
"Well, actually I don't know. All I know is that my brother was a very loving person, and he chose that. He chose to be around Taylor's Alley. He said that the people through there showed him a lot of love and respect. And from my perspective, when I went through Taylor's Alley to find out information about my brother, they really had a lot of love. Everybody through there were crying. Every time I passed through there, everybody was shocked. They really loved him like family, and I am just seeing it now what he was trying to show us all along. It's very hard for everybody because it's really shocking, especially for my mom, and worse, my sister in the States because she was the one who was always there for him, no matter what. Everybody knew that he gave trouble, but anywhere he goes, and he get locked up, she was always the one who was there for him to get him out. So, I guess she really felt it."

Monica Bodden
"Does he have any children?"

Jessica Wagner
"Yes ma'am, he had a daughter who's 5 years-old, and a son, 5 months-old, and a girlfriend who was pregnant at this time - well, that's what he told me. We were talking one night while he was at Hattieville Prison; he told me that the girl was supposed to deliver next year in January or February."

Monica Bodden
"He was in prison for what?"

Jessica Wagner
"Well, the last time, it was because of some charges for something in Orange Walk."

Monica Bodden
"What do you remember most about your brother?"

Jessica Wagner
"Well, he always makes us smile. If we were down, he always says things to make us laugh. He was always funny. He was this outgoing person. He was very fast; one spell, he would be in Orange Walk, and next day, he's in PG, and day after that, he'd be somewhere else. He was very fast at moving around."

Monica Bodden
"I see that you're getting teary; tell me, how hard is this for you?"

Jessica Wagner
"Well, this is really hard for me because, he and I were very close."

Wagner leaves behind 2 children and one on the way.
