Innocent Female Killed In Brother's Gang War
posted (January 7, 2013)
It was another terrible weekend of gun violence in the city - as three persons were killed in 18 hours. The saddest case though is tonight's headline story: the murder of 22 year old Feeshia Felix. It's sad because Feeshia was a productive young woman, an SJC Sixth Form Graduate, recently employed as a temporary clerk at Social Security. But she comes from a family with heavy gang affiliations: two of her brothers were already killed and her mother Therese, a community activist died of asthma complications in 2008. That wide imprint of loss and grief is the background for Saturday morning when death again visited the Felix house on Gill street and this time, it took an innocent life. Monica Bodden reports:..

Monica Bodden reporting
22 year old Feeshia Felix was murdered at her Gill Street address - the home she grew up in most her life.

The young woman was in bed sleeping - when her house came under fire by a hail of bullets.

It happened at around 2:30 in the wee hours of Saturday morning. It is believed that the gunman shoved the muzzle of the gun through this hole inside this Zinc fence - and aimed it directly where the young girl's bedroom is situated.

Her father who was sleeping on his couch at the time - heard 7 shots.

Rudolph Card - Father
"When I heard the shots I woke up and start shouting for my daughter because I heard the shots coming from her direction. She didn't answer, I open the door and I ran outside after the shots, looked over the fence but I didn't see anything the guy already rode off. The neighbor told me that she heard the car stopped and then she heard the shots."

Card ran back inside his house to check up on his young daughter - who was lying in her bed motionless.

Felix was shot to the forehead and died in her sleep.

"Where was she shot?"

Rudolph Card - Father
"I think in the head and in her face. Her brother was trying to take her to the hospital but she was already dead."

Reporter
"So she died in her sleep?"

Rudolph Card - Father
"Yes."

Card strongly believes that those bullets on Saturday morning caught the intended target - even though his 22 year old daughter had no enemies and was an ambitious young woman.

Rudolph Card - Father
"It was somebody that knows the yard and knows the area and knows that that was my daughter room. So he came to kill her. He knows that she was there, it's one of their friends."

Reporter
"Before this incident happened were she fearful of anything, did she say like someone was threatening her or troubling her? Was she involved with any misunderstanding with anyone?"

Rudolph Card - Father
"No, her brothers were having problem with somebody but they didn't say anything."

Monica Bodden
"You think the shot may have been intended for one of her brothers?"

Rudolph Card - Father
"No, it's intended for her to get to the brother. They know that that's her room because it's some of the friends that have been in this yard and know - they were all here, they were crowded up here and that's the hole that they call people from."

Words cannot begin to describe this grieving father's pain. He has lost his only 3 biological children to gun violence.

24 year old Tyrone Felix was murdered only footsteps away from that same house in May of 2006.

In 2007, his 16 year old son Faron Felix was gunned down at the corner of Central American Boulevard and Faber's Road.

And now his only daughter lost her life - due to gun violence. Also his stepson - Ryan Felix - who is known as Cash was shot right around the corner from their home on Faber's in 2010 - he survived the attack. Felix is no stranger to police and is a known affiliate of the Gill Street gang.

Rudolph Card - Father
"I really can't explain that right now."

Reporter
"Can you say something about her? What kind of person she was?"

Rudolph Card - Father
"She was a good girl. She was trying to further in her education and was trying to find a good job."

Reporter
"She only recently moved back to Belize City from Belmopan where she was living. I understand that she was employed at the Social Security Board."

Rudolph Card - Father
"Yes and then she came back home about a month or more now. I am just watching, I really don't have anything to say. This is what happens in this city."

Ten 9mm expended shells were recovered on the street in front of the house while 2 slugs were retrieved from inside the house. Feeshia had been working as a temporary clerk at Social Security Headquarters in Belmopan until November of last year - when SSB discontinued the practice of hiring temps. It came as a bad break for her because - as she told co-workers - that job also gave her the opportunity to live in Belmopan away from the cluster of violence on Gill street.

Police have made no arrests. Reports are that shooting was retaliation for a house fire on Jane Usher Boulevard someone set on New Year's day.
