OW Cop Dies Under Strange Circumstances
posted (March 25, 2013)
And while that was a murder - no one can say for sure what caused the mysterious death of a policeman in Orange Walk. All that's known for sure is that he was found dead in the new river early on Saturday morning after leaving work in his car 12 hours earlier. That same car plunged into the river with him inside. Daniel Ortiz asked the Commander of the Northern Police Region to explain the information they have at this time.

Sr. Supt. Joseph Myvette - Commander, Nothern Police Region
"On Saturday morning, sometime around 7:20 a.m., the police was called to an area in Trial Farm in the area of Honey Camp Street, where the body of a male person was seen floating in the water. The police then got into the water by getting a boat, this person was - the body was retrieved and it was later identified to be that of PC #886 Antonio Chan. The body was then transported to the Northern Regional Hospital where it was pronounced dead on arrival. PC Chan has been attached to the Orange Walk Police formation for the past 3 and a half years, where he has been working relief duties. At this time, as we speak, the post martin examination has been carried out in order to determine the cause of death. Upon the discovery of the body, I believe there where some abrasions over both eyes, the vehicle itself was found submerged in the water, a few yards from where the body was found."

"At this time are you able to tell us what the police believe was the reason that cause the officer to end up in the water?"

Sr. Supt. Joseph Myvette
"No, at this point in time, we will not be able to determine that, but certainly there is an ongoing investigation, that is being conducted by our lead detective, who is also working alongside the Deputy Commander, Assistant Superintendent Fuentes. I must say that he was a good worker. He has worked in several units, whenever he is working he does take his work seriously. He is a well mannerly officer, I should say, and has complied with most of the rules while he's at work."

A post mortem was to have been conducted today, but the results have not been announced.
