Every year, the 2 major water taxi operations, San Pedro Belize Express and Caye Caulker Water taxi prepare for what's called Holy Week, when a good section of the population head for the islands. It's a spike in passenger volume and revenue for the companies, and often gives way to cut-throat competition, as they slash prices and change around schedules to try to attract as many island-bound passengers as possible.
Today, we spoke to the Marketing Manager for Caye Caulker Water Taxi about what the Easter Weekend means for her company. She says that they've been planning for it for 2 months.

"Well, so far our season started great. As you know Easter is one of the times that Belizeans and tourists look forward to going to the Cayes. And so far it has been good for us but this weekend - this Easter weekend, that's when we'll get boat loads of our local Belizean passing through our terminal. So we're prepared; we're ready; we have a lot of surprises, and giveaways. The party starts at Caye Caulker Water Taxi before you reach the Caye, the party has to start here. So we are prepared for that - we have been preparing for the past 2 months. Our Belizeans have always been very supportive of us. As you all know, if you don't know and you want to put emphasis that we are the 100 - the only 100% Belizean own operating water taxi in Belize, and whenever our people pass through, not only in Easter, we always have promotions going on. For us, this is something that we emphasis as you can see, our boats - we have capacity of 120 for our biggest boat, and something that we always emphasize to our customers is that you don't have to rush. If the demand is there we will pull up another boat, and we take you. So there's no need for rush; it's based on the demand that is passing - amount of customers passing through our terminal, we have enough boat, believe you me, to accommodate the demands of our customers."
The Management of Caye Caulker Water Taxi is still in the process deciding by how much they will be slashing their prices for round-trip tickets.
