And while those Trip Advisor users love San Pedro's seas, breeze and coconut trees, they also love the Belizean food.

It's true, tourism surveys repeatedly show that Belize's diverse cuisine and the availability of fresh food are strong selling points for our tourism product.

And that's what BTL is championing in its 2013 telephone directory. The cover was unveiled today at a ceremony in San Ignacio. Chief Operations Officer Karen Bevans said agriculture is where it all begins:

Karen Bevans - Chief Operating Officer, BTL
"Today BTL is highlighting the fact that agricultural produce and the resulting Belizean cuisines, places us at a culturally unique status within the region and makes Belize a home away from home for many, many tourist."

Hon. Gaspar Vega - Minister of Natural Resources
"As you look at it, the words, fresh, vibrant, colorful, nutritious and abundant come to mind when looking at this picture. I believe it is a strong statement on our nutritious local food."

Karen Bevans
"It's the first time we are featuring local produce, in particular food items on our directory cover, and I think it's making a big highlight because most of our tourist return to Belize because of the cuisine that they get from Belize. So I think the food plays a major role in our culture, but at the end of the day we use the cover to promote Belize. That is what BTL is all about, and we think we need to push Belize more and more."

New features in the 2013 phone book include yellow pages in Spanish and coupons in the back of the phone book.

Fifty thousand copies were printed.
