Another Murder At The Former “Palm Island”
posted (May 6, 2013)
Tonight, the family members of 32 year-old John Paul Fernandez, continue to ask questions about what led to his apparent murder on the compound of The Office Restaurant and Bar – formerly known as Palm Island Bar – on the Phillip Goldson Highway.

On Saturday morning at around 3:41 a.m., Fernandez was found dead with a gunshot wound to the right side of the head, and no eyewitnesses to say what led to it.

All police are able to confirm tonight is that he was socializing with a man and shortly after a single gunshot was heard. Fernandez was later found dead in a pool of blood. His family is devastated by his sudden loss and today, they spoke with 7News to share what little information they have about the last time he was seen alive.

Christopher Fernandez - Brother of Deceased
"The information that I got was that my brother was helping a guy that was selling BBQ, not far from here, and the guy said he dropped my brother home. He said that he brought my brother at the lane but he didn't see if my brother reached at home. We got information and everyone knows who did it but we are leaving the information up to the court and to God so that they make the decision what is right. We're waiting on the police to get some information but the only reason is because I want to know how they killed my brother and what really happened to my brother. We want to know who did it and the reason why? Because my brother is a loving person, everyone knows my brother around here and know that he is loving. I know that my brother is loving - he helps anybody around here, you can ask all the neighbors. He's a very helpful person and all my brothers and sisters here, we love him with all our heart. We will miss him. He has a seizure that he gets every now and then and if they called me and told me that my brother got a seizure and he died from that, then I would expect it and I would say the Good Lord is ready for him. But by shooting my brother at the back of his head, that doesn't make any sense to me. No one can come and say that my brother killed himself, I don't believe it and I'm leaving everything up to God because I believe in God and I know He will do what is right."

That question as to why he was killed will remain unanswered until further notice because the main suspect, with whom Fernandez was socializing, has been released from detention by police. He was detained and questioned and gave his version of events, which did not incriminate him.

No one else has come forward so far to offer evidence to police which contradicts his version of the story, so that suspect was released. Police do believe, however, that there is one individual who can assist them with their investigation, and they are actively looking for him.

It is important to note that police retrieved one 9mm expended shell at the scene, and they also found a 9mm pistol at the suspect's home, which was loaded with 15 live rounds of ammunition.
