A Fistful of Counterfeit Benjamins
posted (August 28, 2006)

A Chinese grocer is out $4,400 after he exchanged his genuine Queen Betties for an equivalent in counterfeit Benjamins. The shopkeeper is 30-year-old He Yue Li. He told police that on Saturday 41 year old Cruz Garnett asked if he wanted to exchange his Belize dollars for her U.S. dollars. Li jumped at the opportunity and handed Garnett $4,400 in Belize currency. Garnett in turn gave him US$2,200. Problem is that when Li took a closer look, he discovered that the serial number on two of the notes were identical. Li contacted police and they confirmed that all 21 of the crisp American hundred dollar bills were counterfeit. Cruz is now facing charges of possession of counterfeit currency.
