Tropic Air Loses Aviation Fuel
posted (May 28, 2013)
Over ten security workers at Tropic Air's Municipal Base were let go today as part of an investigation into missing aviation fuel. Tropic Air's Public Relations Director Dennis Sunderman confirmed that the company was moving to a private security provider after the fuel fiasco – which he told us happened back in April. Sunderman confirmed that 1,800 gallons, or 30 Drums of fuel went missing from the Municipal operation and it cannot be accounted for.

Aviation fuel is in high demand on the black market particularly during the dry season for the re-fuelling of drug planes passing through Belize. The retail value of this batch of fuel is about twelve thousand dollars. But on the black market, delivered to a clandestine airstrip it can fetch more than ten times that value.
