Police Minister Says Buckley Situation Should Be Resolved
posted (July 18, 2013)
For the past few weeks, we've been reporting on the plight of Stephen Buckley. He was wrongfully shot in the head by police in 2010; and after a five week investigation, Inspector Dennis Lopez was charged for his attempted murder.

But now the KHMH is running Buckley down for six thousand dollars that they say he owes for his long hospitalization when they recovered 12 shotgun pellets form his head.

The hospital is just trying to get paid – but the outrage is that the police department has completely lapsed in its obligation to a man who was shot for no reason – actually Buckley was returning from work when he was shot, a sad irony since he can't even work anymore due to the after effects of the gun shot.

Today, we asked police Minister John Saldivar for comment.

Hon. John Saldivar - Minister of National Security
"I have promised to look into the matter, the commissioner is currently out of the country but as soon as he returns - I will have a sit down with him and see how we can work something amicable. I do believe - if it is the case that he was mistakenly shot, then something needs to be done to work out a solution."

"It's only $6,000."

Hon. John Saldivar
"Yes, so I will sit with the commissioner and work something out - I don't believe that this needs to drag on much longer."

The police commissioner is currently in El Salvador and will be back before the end of the week.
