Man Found On Bus With Hundred Pound Bag Of Weed

Yesterday, Cayo Police arrested and charged 25 year-old Guatemalan Gerson Garcia, a resident of Melchor, with drug trafficking after officers stopped a bus and found over a hundred pounds of weed being transported among the luggage of other passengers.

It happened on Monday morning at around 10:30, when a crowded Shaw Bus was passing through the Succotz Village in Cayo. The officers, acting on intelligence, stopped the bus at a checkpoint and searched among the luggage. They found 3 separate bags which contained a total of 104 pounds of marijuana. As a result, they detained 3 men who were on the bus, including Garcia, and after each men were questioned, the officers found out that it was he who boarded the bus with the illegal cargo. As a result, he was arrested and charged, while the other 2 men were released.

On Tuesday afternoon at around 3:30, San Ignacio police, acting on intelligence, stopped another bus between miles 64 and 65. They check the back of the bus, and one a spare tire, they found a box containing 5 parcels of marijuana to total weight of 30 pounds. The officers couldn't tie it to anyone on board, so it was deposited as found property.

Yesterday, officers of the Mobile Interdiction Team, the K-9 Unit and the San Ignacio Police conducted a 5-hour search of San Ignacio Town, and on an abandoned lot on Eve Street, they found a crocus bag containing 7 pounds of marijuana. No one was in the area, so the drugs were deposited as found property.

And on last week Saturday afternoon, officers of the Gang Suppression Unit searched a swampy area on Faber's Road, where they found a chlorine bucket. Inside, the officers found several parcels of marijuana to a total of 1.05 kilos - or 37.1 ounces. No one was in the area, so the drugs were deposited as found property.
