Charged For Taking A Man's Car Without Permission

Forty year old Winfield Tasher, a construction worker of Chetumal Street, who allegedly stole a 1992 Toyota car, was charged with theft when he appeared today before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser.

The incident occurred between March 6 and March 7, 2014. The complainant, 34 year old security guard Chika Essel, a naturalized Belizean originally from Nigeria, reported to the police that on march 6 ,Tasher came to his house and asked to rent his car for $40 per day to use for taxi service. Essel said he refused and when he returned home from work the following day he discovered that his car was missing. Essel claimed that his car has a value of $4,000.

When he was arraigned in court today, Tasher claimed that Essel had rented the car to him and he was taking tourists on Phillip Goldson Highway when the car broke down at mile 8 on Phillip Goldson Highway. He said he left the car there and when he returned the following day it had disappeared. He pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was offered a bail of $4,000. His case was adjourned until September 11.
