Hon. Fronseca blasts Broaster and Bradley
posted (August 4, 2014)
Caught up in that mix is PUP Media provocateur Albert Vaughan. He was in the mix of things this morning - and he ended up being arrested. His boss, Opposition Leader Francis Fonseca went to look for him to be taken to court this afternoon, and that's where he spoke to the media:...

Hon. Francis Fonseca, Party Leader, P.U.P.
"We are out here in support of Albert Vaughan, but also in support of the 46 or 47 workers of BML (Belize Maintenance Limited) who were arrested also and as I understand it they are being charged for loitering. Now it seems as something is afoot where they are trying to hold these people overnight now and they are taking their sweet time processing them at the Queen Street Police Station. I went over there personally to the Queen Street Police Station and every question I asked the officers their only response was Mr. Broaster's instructions, Mr. Broaster's instructions. That is the basis on which all these people, these poor workers of BML who were protesting because they're in jeopardy of losing their livelihoods so they are protesting to make a point, they are being held and charged by this very cold U.D.P. government."

"Mr. Vaughan was standing across the street taking pictures and speaking on his phone covering this matter for the Belize Times and Vibes Radio. So it's a matter that should be of concern. Yes, Mr. Vaughan is not a member of the press in that regard, he's a P.U.P. activist, we accept that but he was doing his job on behalf of the People's United Party. And not even the other workers who were protesting they are talking about them not having a permit to protest and all that. These people were spontaneously walking and making a point about their livelihoods being in jeopardy, they have every right to protest and there is absolutely no need for the heavy hand of the government to come down on these poor people."

Today, Broaster explained why Vaughan was arrested:...

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster, 2nd in Command - Eastern Div.
"As it relates to Albert Vaughan, I know that he was warned to move on Queen Street as he was loitering and he refused to do so and he had a whole lot to say to the police officers and as a result he was arrested and charged for loitering. We ask them, everyone to move away and we warn them that they are loitering and several people moved away except for Mr. Vaughan."

Vaughan was the first to have been released on station bail this afternoon.
