Man Convicted For Weed In Attic
posted (August 8, 2014)
Raccoon Street Resident Nigel Murray is at prison tonight after he was found guilty of drug trafficking before the Chief Magistrate, Ann Marie Smith.

Police officers testified that they executed a search warrant at Murray's house on December 28, 2012, and found 3 black plastic bags in the ceiling. It turned out to be 650 grams, or one pound six ounces of weed. Murray was arrested and charged with drug trafficking.

He testified in his defence that he was not the only person at the house when the police arrived, and that the house doesn't belong to him, but to his mother.

After reviewing all the evidence, Chief Magistrate Smith found him guilty. She sentenced him to pay a fine of $10,000, half of which was to deliver upfront. Because he wasn't able to do so, he was taken to Prison, where he will remain. He has until December 31 to pay the entire sum, or he will spend 3 years in jail.
