DCP Segura Faces 6 Criminal Charges, Including Drunk Driving
posted (August 19, 2014)
So, at around 3 p.m., Assistant Superintendent Arzu made his way from Succotz Village to Belmopan, where the police high command decided that Deputy Commissioner Miguel Segura should be arraigned.

As you saw, there was a mob just outside of Benque, and so, taking him near to that location could be a major security concern. He was therefore whisked to Belmopan Magistrate's Court where the press had a bit of difficulty getting into the hearing. That's including other minor preferential treatment he received to try to shield him from the media.

His was arraigned before Magistrate Aretha Ford on the 6 charges with Elis Arnold representing him in court. Those criminal charges include manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, driving without due care and attention, negligent grievous harm, failing to alter the direction of his vehicle to give way to the taxi he ran into, and driving a motor vehicle with an alcohol concentration above the prescribed limit.

No plea was taken and the prosecutor did not object the court granting him bail, and so Magistrate Ford allowed him to be released on bail of $6,000. The conditions of that bail are that he must not interfere with the prosecution's witnesses, including the families of the two accident victims. He must also report to Benque Police every Friday until his case completed.

He must report back to Benque Magistrate's Court on October 9.
