Savage Home Invasion Hopkins: Wife Murdered, Husband Critical
posted (August 19, 2014)
Last night when we ended the news we told you about an outlandish killing in Hopkins Village - where a couple was beaten up and butchered during a home invasion, leaving the one dead and the other critically injured.

More is known tonight. At 6:20 last night, an attacker charged into the vacation home of Dudley and Josephine Augustine, both Belizean teachers. He stabbed them both repeatedly, killing 47 year old Josephine, and critically injuring 71 year old Dudley. Family members say Josephine was found in a fighting position as though she was defending her husband. Nothing inside the home was stolen, except for the couple's vehicle - which has not been located as yet.

Today, their cousin Conrad Lewis told the media what the family knows at this time:..

Conrad Lewis, Cousin of Dudley Augustine
"Yesterday evening about 6 apparently 2 guys entered the premises of Dudley Augustine and his wife and murdered his wife and severely injured Dudley Augustine. They escape taking along with the Trooper of the couple. They did not take anything, absolutely nothing from the premises."

Reporter
"You don't believe the motive was robbery?"

Conrad Lewis, Cousin of Dudley Augustine
"I don't think the motive was robbery because nothing was missing from the house. It's other motive than robbery."

Reporter
"Why would anyone want to hurt the Augustine's?"

Conrad Lewis, Cousin of Dudley Augustine
"That is the million dollar question, but perhaps there might be past beef with someone. But it is definitely not robbery."

Reporter
"Have you spoken with Dudley?"

Conrad Lewis, Cousin of Dudley Augustine
"Yes, I visited him this morning. I tried to communicate with him, but he has not regained consciousness. He had a severe blow on the head. His left ear is damaged and he is not even comprehending. He is just mumbling and the doctor told me that he needs immediate blood transfusion."

"In Hopkins, doors are always left open, so anybody can just climb up the stairs and knock and then enter. So it's quite easy for a criminal to just go in enter and do what he wants to do."

Reporter
"Do you happen to know the chain of events once the men got in because I understand that the wife's throat was cut?"

Conrad Lewis, Cousin of Dudley Augustine
"As a matter of fact the police indicated that she died fighting. She was found in a fighting position. So therefore she was defending her husband because he is suffering from a stroke and she was found in the kitchen and she was found in the living room."

Monica Bodden
"So far how is he doing?"

Calvin Augustine, son of Dudley Augustine
"Like 50/50, he is talking a little in and out. It's very sad because my father just had a stroke about a year plus ago."

Monica Bodden
"Tell us about his injuries?"

Calvin Augustine, son of Dudley Augustine
"His injuries are a wound behind his ears and his right eye."

Monica Bodden
"Tell me what you understand happened?"

Calvin Augustine, son of Dudley Augustine
"I don't really know. I don't know if it's just grievous or robbery - something like that. So far we didn't find anything else missing, only the vehicle a 1995 green Isuzu Rodeo."

Monica Bodden
"Nothing else was stolen?"

Calvin Augustine, son of Dudley Augustine
"Nothing else, just the vehicle."

Monica Bodden
"No force entry?"

Calvin Augustine, son of Dudley Augustine
"I think they stomp down the door or something like that."

Dudley Augustine's family says at one point when he was conscious he did mention that he and his wife were attacked by two Hispanic men.

As we noted, only the family car was stolen, and reports say police recovered that at mile 28 on the Hummingbird Highway today. Unofficial reports also say they have also rounded up some suspects who are former employees of the Augustine's.
