Relief For Maskall
posted (October 10, 2014)
Last night we showed you the aftermath of the freak storm that tore up a small portion of Maskall Village on the old Northern Road.

It has now been 36 hours since the storm and today villagers received relief supplies from the National Emergency Management Organization. NEMO distributed some building materials as well as clothing and other necessities. And while it wasn't much, the villagers were grateful for the help. 7news was present this morning at the village community center.

Leslie Pascasio - Chairman of Maskall Village
"This is going to help the people a lot because most of them - everything got wet up; their mattress, sofa, even their food. So this will going to help them a lot. We have mattress, sweaters, mops, brooms, nail to nail down your zinc and clothing, so this will going to help a lot. The village council will going to help as much as possible. We've been going around asking people what they need and just yesterday I told some of the villagers that we got to help, so they are ready to help. It is raining off and on during the day time and then about 10pm at night the rain came down and then the wind start blowing and then the lightning. I was in my house laying down watching TV and all of a sudden I heard a big boom and that's when that house fell on my next door neighbor house, so it was scary. Part of the night when I got up to look outside, we have a big tree in the yard and it was gone - it just tipped over."

A total of 8 homes were destroyed by the storm.

While residents say it was a tornado, the MET Department says it was just a very strong thunderstorm.
