The Case Against Cops
posted (November 4, 2014)
The court case for Armani Bailey against two Belize City police officers started today at the Raccoon Street police station. He is the 19-year-old man who accused Constables Larry Sutherland and Wayne Trapp of attempting to drown him inside a garbage container at Belizean Beach - 4 miles out the city on the Western Highway. Both officers have been charged with one count of being uncivil when on duty, and Sutherland was additionally charged with prejudice to good order and discipline when he allegedly harmed Bailey. This morning Armani Bailey testified against the 2 officers for almost 3 hours. After leaving the police station, his aunt JP Grace Flowers spoke with 7news.

"The case started this morning at the Raccoon Police Station. My nephew already testified, but it adjourned until a further date. I just want the public know that whenever the police they abuse you or beat you for nothing, go and make a report because up to now e are getting some kind of satisfaction. I don't know what will be the outcome, but I hope that something good comes out of it. I really want to set an example, don't sit back and let people abuse you or chance you, go and make a report because there are people who will listen to you and proceed with what comes ahead because sometimes some of the police really overdo; you have good police and you have bad ones, but as I say don't sit back and get abused. Go and report it. Mr. Rivero is all the time there for you, go and make a report."

The case has been adjourned until Thursday afternoon - where Flowers will take the stand to testify against the officers.
