Man and Minor Jailed For Bus Robbery
posted (December 23, 2014)
25 year-old Samuel Bevans and a 15 year-old boy are serving the first night of a 10 year sentence after they were convicted today in the Magistrates Court for robbery.

It made big news on April 15, 2011 when Bevans, who was only 22 at the time, was caught by quick responding officers from the Gang Suppression Unit. Ernest Mangar, the conductor of James Bus Service, reported that the driver of the bus pulled off Cemetery Road near to the Rogers Stadium to let passengers off. That's when Bevans and a minor reportedly ambushed him at gunpoint and robbed him $1,000 in cash, belonging to the bus company.

GSU Officers were on patrol, and they got the information of a robbery in progress. They moved quickly and apprehended both males, retrieving the weapon, a .22 revolver, loaded with 5 live rounds of ammunition and the stolen money.

They were charged with keeping an unlicensed firearm, keeping unlicensed ammunition, and robbery. Both men have been standing trial for those charges before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer, and the case came to an end today. Senior Magistrate Frazer, after reviewing all the evidence, found both men guilty of all 3 charges.

She sentenced Bevans to 7 years in jail for the robbery, since he had a previous conviction, while the minor was sentenced to 5 years. Both men were sentenced to 3 years for both firearm offences, which are to run concurrently. Those sentences will run consecutive to the robbery sentence, and so Bevans will spend 10 years in jail, while the minor will spend 8.
