Caye Caulker’s Lazy Lizard Rises Again
posted (December 29, 2014)
The Caye Caulker Split's well-known bar, the Lazy Lizard has been closed for almost 2 months because the bar owner, Immer Perez, has been having a complicated dispute with his landlord.

This landlord wants him evicted from the property because he says he has a buyer for the deal, a deal which Perez and his lawyer strongly dispute. So, the liquor license issued by the Town Council, which was in the landowner's name was revoked, forcing Perez to close down. Then, the landlord's agents went into the bar and removed Perez's liquor stock and placed it in a different area. Perez claims that they broke in and burglarized his place, and so, he's pressing criminal charges against the agents.

All of that meant that the bar, which attracts lucrative economic activity for the island, has been closed down.

Well, since then, Perez has made major headway in regaining full access and rights to the bar, and today, he told us how he got the liquor licenses restored in his name:

Immer Perez
"It's going step by step. We are going slowly to take the power back and giving back everything to me. Good news on Christmas eve thanks to the local government of Belize and the Tourism Minister Manuel Herredia as well and the employees of the local government, they assist me to appeal for the liquor license and we got back a good Christmas eve for the Split Lazy Lizard under the name "Kukulcan Bar and Grill" that is registered under my name. Thanks to my lawyer as well. He has been there for me every minute sometimes texting him, calling him late and what's not. To all my friends that are with me who were saying that you got to go forward, don't let them take advantage of you. As well today, we got a court order that they must immediately put back the utilities that they removed from the establishment known as the Lazy Lizard/Kukulcan Bar. We are getting back the electricity immediately - that's an order from the court. We will have a good new years eve party as well. On behalf of Kukulcan Bar/Lazy Lizard and Bowen and Bowen, we will come together and do a nice party for the new years eve as well."

Perez says that he will pay his employees for all the days that the bar was closed, and he will sue to recover all the financial losses for those 7 weeks that he was forcibly closed down.
