St. Martin’s Needy Targetted
posted (December 29, 2014)
While that school was assessing the bad news, at St. Martin De Porres on Patridge Street in Belize City, needy families were getting clothing donations.

It's an effort headed by members of the Pallotine Alumni of New York in which local agents have been working in Lake Independence to get the donation to those who need it the most.

We stopped in and spoke with the organizers about it:

Bernadette Ellis, assisting with donations
"Today i am assisting Mrs. Daphne Mars out of New York. Actually the Pallotine Alumni Association Chapter of New York along with Mrs. Margarita Menzies is contributing to the St. Martin's De Porres Parish through St. Vincent de Paul in honour of Santos Diaz."

Daniel Ortiz
"Talk to us about the items you are giving away?"

Bernadette Ellis, assisting with donations
"These are new items. They are mostly for children from about 6 months and older and there are arrange of items from baby one-zies up to jackets, shorts, t-shirts - all new items."

Daniel Ortiz
"Talk to us about what inspired the lady to decide you know what, we need to make an efort to make some donations down in Belize."

Bernadette Ellis, assisting with donations
"The Pallotine Association of New York always contributes to causes in Belize. They are all Belizeans living abroad and want to give back to their home country and in honour of Santos Diaz who is a family friend as well as assisting St. Martin's de Porres. We know that it is an area that needs assistance and so they try to reach out to association or communities that need help."

Boisrand Panton
"Mr. Santos Diaz is one of our heavy members of our conference and through his connection we get in touch with these people and we are glad to have them to help the poor."

The Pallotine Alumni of New York also has a contribution for Sister Cecilia Home for the Elderly, which they will hand over at a later date.
