Another Allegation of Medical Malpractice
posted (January 19, 2015)
Last week Tuesday on this newscast, you heard the first-time mother, 19 year-old Lucila Martinez, accuse medical staff at the KHMH of negligence when they reportedly left cotton swabs inside her body after she gave birth. Well tonight, there are reports of another possible medical malpractice case coming out of Western Belize.

24 year-old Arson Moh, a resident of Billy White Village, reported to San Ignacio Police that on last week Monday, he took his common-law wife Norma Marroquin to the San Ignacio Community Hospital because a piece of placenta was left in her when she gave birth the week before at the Spanish Lookout Clinic.

Marroquin was taken to the KHMH, where, according to Moh, the doctors there told him that the doctors needed to operate immediately on her because one of her ovaries had burst inside her body. The doctors completed the surgery and had to keep her for observation because she had, quote, "a lot of infection".

3 days after the surgery, Marroquin died just before 10 p.m. on last week Friday, January 16.

So, the alleged medical malpractice supposedly happened at the Spanish Lookout Clinic. We contacted the Clinic and were directed to the person in charge. That person in authority told us that representatives of the Ministry of Health met with them today. He told us that the Ministry is currently investigating the case, and will brief them of the findings. When we asked if the family has complained of medical malpractice against the clinic, the person in charge told us that up to this evening, none has been forthcoming.
