The Mayoral Hopefuls Of SISE
posted (February 12, 2015)
Another municipality in the west which is being governed by a UDP Council is the twin towns of San Ignacio/ Santa Elena.

The PUP wants to change that, and they've chosen another politician with the nickname "Monchie" to lead that team. He's Ramon "Monchi" Quiroz, and he told us today that based on his showing in the last municipal election he has the hope that he can be mayor this time around:

Ramon "Monchi" Quiroz - PUP Mayoral Candidate, Cayo's Twin Towns
"This is my second time around. I ran in the last election and the margin of lost was very minimal. So, I decided to run again and I've been working ever since. I've been walking the streets of San Ignacio and Santa Elena and I can tell you, the reception is really good. A couple did not know me in Santa Elena. I was born and raised in San Ignacio, but I can tell you, from the campaign started, we've been doing excellent and I can say we will deliver for the 4th March."

Daniel Ortiz
"Is the current mayoral candidate the incumbent or is he a different individual total together?"

Ramon "Monchi" Quiroz
"He is the new a mayoral candidate, but he was been there for the past 12 years as a councilor candidate and I can say, people out there are saying the same thing, that he has had 12 years to do what he had to do and there is no excuses now. So, whatever is left undone, then time just ran up on them. I can tell you, with the new vision that we have as the PUP 7, with the leaders we have, our standard bearers Mr. Chebat in Cayo North, Landy Habet in Cayo Noth East and Dan Silva in Cayo Central - our machinery is well geared up. We have two offices, very functional - we have two staff and day to day, we are visiting, working and listening to the cry of the people. They are also saying that consultation process is very important. They want now to feel or to be more a part of certain decisions that the town makes and we are willing to do that."

As you heard in the interview, the UDP Mayor Candidate, who wants to keep Cayo's Twin Towns under the leadership of the ruling party is Earl Trapp, a sitting city councilor who has been in town hall for 12 years. He told us today that the San Ignacio/Santa Elena Town Council will benefit from his experience as a long-standing member of local government:

Earl Trapp - UDP Mayoral Candidate, Cayo's Twin Towns
"Our nomination day yesterday was well attended. The people came out with force and show their support for the new 7 dynamic team for the United Democratic Party."

Daniel Ortiz
"Sir, there are those who say that you have been a councilor for 12 years and that's more than enough time for whatever changes you would have wanted to make, whatever policy decisions to make, SISE a better location to live in and to work in. How do you convince the public that they should give you a chance as mayor?"

Earl Trapp
"Well, first of all, I have the quality of leadership that leads by example. For the past 12 years I've been here as a councilor and every so often we rotate and I am there as the Deputy Mayor and in the majority of the times I've taken the bull by the horn, especially whenever people are calling me, having needs and concerns to be addressed in their area. I have always been there and I mean, the thing is that I am visibly seeing in the twin towns of Santa Elena and San Ignacio working on weekends on the grader, the backhoe, the trucks, in the drains - that's me. I am here ready and willing to represent and to serve the people of San Ignacio and Santa Elena and to help our twin towns to be a better place for our people and for tourists that come and visit us."
